Málta - A búcsú, Gács Mátyás

Elérkezett a búcsú ideje. 10 nap és 1 éjszaka után a reptéren ülve írom ezeket a sorokat. Egy élményekben gazdag forró 10 nap volt, mely örök emlék marad. 

A hétvégén  Marsaxlokk városát fedeztem fel. A kikötő tele van a hagyományos máltai színes halászhajókkal. A parton az éttermek egy összefüggő teraszt hoztak létre, hogy az ember ne is tudja, kihez ül be valójában. Egy városnézés után az este a Spinola öbölben jártam. Az öböl partja kavicsos és tele volt hajóval. A meglepetés a "karácsonyi vásár" hangulat volt. A kivilágított utcák és a zene a magyar karácsonyi vásárok hangulatát idézte. Valójában egy helyi menet, "feast" zajlott. A történet szerint a nepálból érkezett szobrot végig viszik Málta keleti parti városain július utolsó vasárnapján. 

Vasárnap a régóta várt Gozo szigete következett. A sziget még őrzi az eredeti máltai hangulatot. A fő sziget zsúfolt, nyüzgő életéhez képest csendesebb, látványban pedig még tradicionális. Az épületek nem alakultak hatalmas felhőkarccolókká és még jól érzékelhető az az arabos, olaszos hatás, ami a szigetet érte történelme során. A citadelláról belátható az egész sziget. Az igazi máltai érzést itt lehet átélni.

Az utazás oda a Chirkewwa kikötőből indult, de visszafelé nem lehetett kihagyni a gyors kompot, ami egyenesen Valettába vitt.

A Gozo-Valetta "fast ferry"

Az elmúlt napok alapján, ha valaki idejön, akkor 

 

1. érdemes téli időszakban jönni, mikor nincs ennyire meleg és kevesebb a turistákkal zsúfolt utca. 

2. szállást nem érdemes St. Julian (Saint Gildjan) környékére szállást foglalni, mert főleg nyáron a sziget legkoszosabb része.

3. a tömegközlekedés türelmet igényel. Télen nem annyira rossz, mint most. A sok dugó, melyet építkezések és a feast miatti lezárások okoznak lassítják az egyébként is "máltai időzónában" közlekedő buszokat. 

4. a nyári tengerpari élményekhez a legjobb az igazán homokos Riviera Beach, ahonnan a napnyugta a legszebben látszik (jó légköri viszonyok mellett).

5. nem érdemes kihagyni az olaszos éttermek mellett a nyúlból készült ételeket és a Canollit, ami egy ricottával töltött édes sütemény.  Aki Valettában jár, a Dolci Peccati cukrászdában talál nagyon finomat.

6. elutazásnál úgy kell pakolni, hogy Budapesttel ellentétben a repülőtéren a laptopot, telefont, tabletet ki kell venni a csomagból.

 It's time to say goodbye. After 10 days and 1 night, I am writing these lines while sitting at the airport. It was a hot 10 days full of experiences, which will remain an eternal memory. 

I discovered the city of Marsaxlokk over the weekend. The harbor is full of traditional Maltese colorful fishing boats. On the beach, the restaurants have created a continuous terrace so that you don't even know who you are actually sitting next to. After a city tour, I visited Spinola Bay in the evening. The shore of the bay was pebbly and full of boats. The surprise was the "Christmas market" atmosphere. The illuminated streets and the music evoked the atmosphere of Hungarian Christmas markets. In fact, a local procession, "feast", was taking place. According to the story, the statue, which came from Nepal, is carried through the towns on the east coast of Malta on the last Sunday of July.

On Sunday, the long-awaited island of Gozo followed. The island still retains its original Maltese atmosphere. Compared to the crowded, bustling life of the main island, it is quieter and still traditional in appearance. The buildings have not turned into huge skyscrapers and the Arab and Italian influence that affected the island during its history is still clearly visible. The whole island can be seen from the citadel. The real Maltese feeling can be experienced here. The journey there started from Chirkewwa harbour, but on the way back you couldn't miss the fast ferry that took you straight to Valletta.

Based on the past few days, if someone comes here, then 

1. it is worth coming in winter, when it is not so hot and the streets are less crowded with tourists. 

2. Accommodation around St. Julian (Saint Gildjan) is not worth booking, because it is the dirtiest part of the island, especially in summer.

 3. public transport requires patience. It's not as bad in winter as it is now. The many traffic jams caused by construction and closures due to the feast slow down the buses that are already operating in the "Malta time zone". 

4. for summer seaside experiences, the really sandy Riviera Beach is the best, from which the sunset can be seen most beautifully (with good atmospheric conditions).

5. in addition to Italian restaurants, you should not miss rabbit dishes and Canolli, which is a sweet cake filled with ricotta. Anyone who visits Valletta will find a very delicious pastry at Dolci Peccati. 

6. when leaving, you have to pack in such a way that, unlike in Budapest, you have to take the laptop, phone, tablet out of the package at the airport.
